Panera Bread now a part of Applebee’s site plan

By SEAN YODER | July 13, 2016 10:59 AM

The expected development along Route 286 across from ALDI that will feature an Applebee’s restaurant and a hotel will no longer include a Bob Evans but instead a Panera Bread, according to a revised site plan presented to the White Township Planning Commission.

Panera Bread is a chain of bakery-cafes known for its soups, sandwiches and baked goods. The 2,000-shop chain got its start in 1981 in Missouri, according to its website.

The commission didn’t need to take action on the revised plan at the Tuesday evening meeting. Chris Anderson, assistant township manager, gave the commission an update and said Indy Apple has received the highway occupancy permit to establish a sewer line and a traffic signal easement. He said the developers are waiting for asbestos abatement so they can begin demolishing the existing structures and start construction.

The Panera Bread pad site will also include a drive-thru lane. Anderson said Indy Apple’s engineers will forward the full construction plan to the township by the end of the week.

The planning commission also approved final site plans for:

• Colleen Hegland at 4462 Route 286. The site plan was originally approved in 1999 but was never filed with the county, according to Matt Genchur, White Township code enforcement officer.

• David and Donna Reed at 2698 West Pike. The subdivision will leave the original parcel at 1.8 acres and the second lot will be 1.617 acres. The commission approved the plan with the condition that a sewer line be installed to reach the new parcel.

• Thomas Mruk at 1174 Martin Road. The 129-acre parcel will have 88.1 acres subdivided off to James Streams, who also owns adjacent property.

• Fred Kunkle along Oakland Avenue. An interior line was dissolved to add 0.07 acre to the 0.522 acre there.
